Uturu, Abia State – A tragic ambush in Uturu, Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State, has left two Chinese expatriates and a Nigerian police officer dead, following an attack by unknown gunmen.
The Abia State Police Command confirmed the deadly assault in a statement issued in Umuahia by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka.
According to the statement, the victims—identified as Mr. Quan, a site manager, and Mr. Cai—were traveling with a security escort to their company’s mining site in Agukwu-Amaya, Ndundu Community, when the armed assailants struck.
“The attackers ambushed the convoy and opened fire, killing the two expatriates and a police escort officer, Inspector Audu Saidu,” the police spokesperson revealed.
The gunmen reportedly made away with the service rifle of the fallen officer after the attack and fled the scene before reinforcements could arrive.
The police say investigations have commenced and that efforts are being intensified to track down and apprehend those behind the heinous crime.
The incident has sparked concerns about the safety of foreign workers and the rising spate of insecurity in parts of Abia State, especially within resource-rich communities.
Authorities have called for calm, assuring the public that justice will be served and the culprits brought to book.
