Gunmen Attack Teaching Hospital, Kidnap Deputy Director, Security Man

Tuesday morning saw another attack on the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Ituku Ozalla, in Enugu State by armed hoodlums who were reportedly kidnappers.

A resident physician was ambushed and kidnapped earlier this year on hospital grounds by armed individuals, but he was able to flee the kidnappers’ nest.

Vanguard discovered that a security officer and a female deputy director of the hospital were purportedly seized by the kidnappers.

In a widely shared video, an SUV purportedly owned by the kidnapped woman—a nurse—was seen abandoned and had glass on the passenger side of the front that had been shot through.

As of the time this story was filed, neither the police nor the hospital administration had confirmed the event.

However, a trustworthy source who verified the occurrence claimed it happened at the same spot where a doctor was kidnapped a few weeks prior.

A distraught staff member bemoaned, “This is so sad; we are not safe at all in this hospital; everything is porous.”
