Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has approved a generous N100,000 Christmas bonus for civil servants and retired government employees. The announcement was made by the state’s Head of Service, George Nweke, on Tuesday night, bringing joy to workers and pensioners ahead of the festive season.
Nweke explained that the bonus, which will be disbursed immediately, is intended to support the beneficiaries with their Christmas expenses. It will cover all staff in government offices and departments, as well as retirees, marking the first time pensioners are included in the initiative.
“His Excellency approved this on Monday, December 23, 2024, and has directed its immediate implementation to ensure civil servants have a wonderful yuletide celebration,” Nweke stated.
This marks the second consecutive year Governor Fubara has given workers a N100,000 Christmas bonus—an amount exceeding the national minimum wage. However, the inclusion of retirees in this year’s bonus has been particularly well-received, reflecting the governor’s commitment to acknowledging their contributions to the state.
The bonus is part of the governor’s broader “Rivers First” initiative, a development agenda aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents of the state.
