Gov. Adeleke Pledges Support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda

Oyetunde Ojo, the FHA MD, wraps up her Southwest trip.

His Excellency Ademola Adeleke, the governor of Osun State, has promised to help President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) Renewed Hope Agenda thrive in the state.

This claim was made on Monday, March 18, 2024, during a courtesy visit from Hon. Oyetunde Ojo, the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Federal Housing Authority (FHA), to wrap up the tour of the South West zone.

During the visit, the FHA Chief Executive addressed the governor and said that the goal of the trip was to introduce Osun State to the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda and to ask for cooperation and partnership between the state government and the Federal Housing Authority.

As stated by Hon. Ojo, “the purpose of our coming is for a courtesy visit and to bring President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s (GCFR) Renewed Hope Agenda on Housing message to Osun State” .

Hon. Ojo informed the governor that the FHA’s new management had decided to visit all of the state governors, who are in responsible of maintaining their states’ land, in order to request land in response to the President’s directive to provide affordable housing to Nigerians.

The MD/CEO of FHA reiterated the President’s position that all Nigerians, regardless of political affiliation or leaning, should have access to shelter. He noted that the welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of religion, tribe, or political inclination, is at the center of his program.

According to him, the Authority’s new end-user driven strategy, which would let the public choose the kind of homes they want and give them control over the Authority’s projects in the states, will prevent FHA from building homes without the state’s input in the design.

“We want the state’s approval before we undertake any house projects. You’re familiar with your people, their customs, their tastes,” he said.

The head of the FHA further stated that the Authority would like the state’s assistance in profiling the workers who are the intended homeowners—off-takers—as this would encourage occupants to move into the houses rather than leave them empty after they are completed.

According to Hon. Ojo, FHA would handle Partnership, Direct Construction, Site, and Services under the Authority’s delivery methods. According to him, the Authority intends to construct studio apartments and one-bedroom homes to accommodate young people just starting out in life. It also intends to promote carcass housing, in which FHA would take care of the plumbing and electrical work and leave the finishing up to the individual tenants based on their budget and preferences.
He said that doing this would significantly lower building costs.

Ultimately, Hon. Ojo informed the governor that the Authority also has plans for construction for the Diasporan population.

He said that the FHA’s ongoing digitalization would help with this.

In addition to drawing in foreign capital and assisting the diaspora in relocating to appropriate housing, the MD pointed out that the housing industry’s entire value chain will boost state economies by generating both direct and indirect jobs.

In response, Governor Adeleke congratulates Hon. Ojo and the new FHA executive team. He expressed his support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda in Housing and said Osun State is willing to collaborate with the President on this project.

The governor stated, “As our leader and brother, we want Mr. President to succeed.

Osun State is prepared to assist the President in achieving his housing objective.
As a result, Governor Adeleke gave the State Commissioners of Works and ICT the order to start organizing the collaboration with FHA right away.

Later, after leading his team to tour the Authority’s Oshogbo site, the FHA Managing Director voiced his displeasure with the site’s sluggish progress.
The crew had already visited the Authority’s location in Ajoda, Oyo State, on their way to Osun State.

Disappointed with the partners’ 20% performance, the MD stated that management would be forced to review the contracts and revoke the non-performing ones due to the contracts having passed their stated delivery date, their obvious lack of seriousness, and their visible lack of presence and activity on the site.
