Ex-SGF Mustapha: Buhari’s Signature Forged in $6.23M CBN Withdrawal
Boss Mustapha, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), has disclosed that the signatures of former President Muhammadu Buhari and himself were fraudulently replicated by individuals involved in the withdrawal of $6,230,000 from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on February 8, 2023.
During his testimony on Tuesday, February 13, in the ongoing trial of ex-CBN governor Godwin Emefiele, Mustapha clarified that he had no knowledge of the transaction purportedly for compensating foreign election observers.
He emphasized that neither the federal government nor the SGF’s office has the mandate to solicit CBN funds for foreign election observer payments, a task he attributed solely to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
A CBN official, Michael Onyeka Ogbu, had previously informed the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Maitama that the cash was disbursed to an individual named Jibril Abubakar, allegedly from the SGF’s office, based on approvals from President Buhari and CBN governor Emefiele, following a request by the SGF.
The allegations suggest Emefiele’s involvement in the controversial withdrawal.
