Four Dead, Two Injured in Kogi Road Accident – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed the death of four persons in a lone accident involving an articulated truck in Kogi State.

The Bureau Newspaper gathered that the incident, which occurred around 7:20 p.m. on Monday, took place opposite the Produce, Falele, along the Lokoja-Okene highway. The ill-fated truck reportedly lost control and crashed into a concrete road divider.

Confirming the accident, Kogi State FRSC Sector Commander, Mr. Samuel Oyedeji, attributed the tragedy to excessive speed and brake failure. He stated that all the victims were passengers aboard the truck.

“Unfortunately, four people were already dead when we got there, while two others sustained serious injuries and bruises,” Oyedeji told NAN in Lokoja on Tuesday.

He added that the injured victims, who suffered fractures, were promptly evacuated and taken to Honey Gold Hospital for urgent medical attention. Meanwhile, the remains of the deceased were deposited at the mortuary of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Lokoja.

The Bureau Newspaper also gathered that the FRSC received a distress call immediately after the crash and swiftly deployed a rescue team to the scene.

Oyedeji used the opportunity to caution motorists against reckless driving and urged them to always ensure their vehicles, particularly the braking systems, are in proper condition before embarking on any journey.

“We appeal to all road users to avoid excessive speed and prioritize safety to prevent unnecessary loss of lives on our highways,” he advised.

The tragic incident once again underscores the dangers of reckless driving and poor vehicle maintenance, especially on Nigeria’s busy highways.
