Bayelsa State, Nigeria – Moses Ambakina Jituboh, a former Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, has died at the age of 54.
A close source confirmed the development to The Bureau Newspaper late Friday, revealing that Jituboh passed away after a brief illness.
“Yes, your information is correct. I can confirm that Moses Jituboh is dead. I just got off the phone with a community chief,” the source said, adding that efforts are underway to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
A Distinguished Career in Service
Jituboh served as Jonathan’s ADC during his tenure as Governor of Bayelsa State and remained a trusted member of his security team when Jonathan became Vice President and later President.
Following the 2015 presidential election, in which Jonathan conceded defeat, Jituboh returned to his duties within the Nigerian Police Force. He rose through the ranks and was once considered for the position of Inspector General of Police, though the appointment ultimately went to another candidate.
Before retiring in 2023, Jituboh held several high-ranking positions, including Deputy Inspector-General (DIG) in charge of the Department of Research and Planning, and later the Department of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) at Force Headquarters.
Police Command Pays Tribute
In a statement released on Saturday, Zone 16 Police Command expressed deep condolences to Jituboh’s family and the people of Bayelsa State.
The Zonal Public Relations Officer, Emonena Gunn, conveyed the message of Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) Adebola Hamzat, who described Jituboh’s passing as an immense loss to the police force, Bayelsa State, and the nation.
“He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force on June 10, 1994, as a cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police,” the statement read.
“His contributions to the Nigeria Police Force, dedication to service, and integrity can never be forgotten.”
The statement highlighted Jituboh’s exemplary service record, noting his commitment to duty and his impactful leadership in the police force.
A Nation Mourns
Jituboh’s death has been described as a significant loss to Nigeria, with tributes pouring in from across the country.
“On behalf of the entire officers and men of Zone 16 Command, please accept our heartfelt condolences,” the AIG’s statement concluded.
The former DIG is survived by his immediate family and a legacy of distinguished service. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
