Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms from Monday to Wednesday across various regions of the country, with a focus on the northern, central, and southern parts of Nigeria. According to NiMet’s weather outlook, localised thunderstorms will affect several states, potentially leading to urban flooding and the disruption of daily activities.
In the northern region, states like Kebbi and Zamfara will experience thunderstorms in the morning on Monday, with further thunderstorms expected over Zamfara, Kaduna, Bauchi, Adamawa, and Taraba States later in the afternoon and evening.
For the North Central region, localised thunderstorms are anticipated over Niger and Kwara States during the morning hours, with more severe weather conditions expected later in the day over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nasarawa, Plateau, Kwara, and Kogi States.
In the southern cities, areas such as Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Ondo will experience localised thunderstorms on Monday morning, with more storms forecasted for Oyo, Ondo, Osun, Ogun, Imo, Enugu, Ekiti, Edo, and Delta States later in the day.
Moving into Tuesday, the northern region, including Taraba, Adamawa, Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa States, will continue to see morning thunderstorms, with further rainstorms anticipated over Borno, Sokoto, and Gombe States in the afternoon and evening.
For Wednesday, NiMet predicts that thunderstorms will persist, particularly in Kaduna, Zamfara, and Kebbi in the north. Later in the day, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, Jigawa, and Kano States will also experience storms, while the central region, including the FCT, Nasarawa, Plateau, and Kogi, will be similarly affected.
In the southern region, thunderstorms will continue to affect Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and Bayelsa, with more intense weather expected over Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Enugu, and other southern states later in the week.
NiMet has advised residents to take necessary precautions to avoid flood-prone areas, particularly in major cities where heavy downpours may cause urban flooding. The public is encouraged to stay informed through weather updates from NiMet and adhere to safety advisories issued by relevant authorities.
