FERMA Launches Nationwide Road Repairs Ahead of Festive Season to Ease Traffic

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has initiated a large-scale road repair program, “Operation Connect to Your Destination,” aimed at improving traffic flow across Nigeria’s federal highways ahead of the festive season. This second phase, launched in Kano State, is set to enhance road conditions and ease congestion as travel surges between northern and southern regions.

FERMA Managing Director, Engr. Chukwuemeka Agbasi, outlined ambitious targets: repairing 18,850 square meters of road surface, rehabilitating over 12,000 failed sections, completing 2,700 square meters of road overlay, and ensuring 653 kilometers of road are motorable. The project, mapped out to tackle traffic-prone areas, aims to improve travel time, reduce congestion, and generate over 12,000 jobs.

Engr. Sani Abdulkadir, FERMA’s Direct Labour Department Head, confirmed the work is expected to wrap up by mid-December, ensuring smooth travel during the yuletide. Meanwhile, Kano’s FRSC Sector Commander, Umar Matazu, represented by Deputy Corps Marshal Abdulsalam Kabiru, encouraged drivers to practice safe driving once repairs are complete.
