FG Approves Salary & Pension Increases for Civil Servants & Pensioners

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a significant salary increase for civil servants across six consolidated salary structures. The increments, which range from 25% to 35%, were approved to improve the welfare of government employees in various sectors.

This adjustment affects the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS), and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

This follows previous salary adjustments for the tertiary education and health sectors, which included the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) for universities, the Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS) for polytechnics and colleges of education, and the Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS). The health sector benefitted through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).

Emmanuel Njoku, the Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), confirmed that these increases will take effect from January 1, 2024. In addition to the salary revisions, the Federal Government has approved pension increases ranging from 20% to 28% for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme corresponding to the same six consolidated salary structures, also effective from January 1, 2024.

These adjustments are part of the government’s commitment to enhancing the economic well-being of its workforce and retired personnel, ensuring that they keep pace with economic realities and inflationary pressures.
