Security forces have detained a few alleged vandals of sewage manhole covers on highways in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

Additionally, attempts are being undertaken to capture their accomplices, particularly those who purchase the manhole covers, according to a statement issued by Mr. Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the Minister on Public Communications and Social Media.

According to the statement, the public will be briefed in due time, and pertinent stakeholders are already making every effort to prevent this act of vandalism by criminal elements, as instructed by Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike.

The minister expressed regret that Nigerians might go so far as to remove and sell sewage manhole covers on highways, endangering the lives of drivers. The government will take all necessary steps to ensure that those responsible are held accountable.

He said it was unfortunate that when the government spent public money to install facilities for Nigerians, criminals would take them down and sell them to other Nigerians, who would not care that their illegal actions put their fellow citizens in risk.

The FCT Minister expressed gratitude to Nigerians, praising the individual who took the time to record the widely shared video and characterizing his endeavor as an example of the patriotism the nation yearned for.
