Shooting Incident in Bwari
According to a statement from the FCT Police Command, officers responded to a distress call on December 26, 2024, from Najob Guest House in Bwari, where gunfire had been reported. Upon arrival, they found 29-year-old Andrew Philemon critically injured after being shot by Nwigwe, who was armed with a pump-action rifle.
Police investigations revealed that the shooting followed a heated argument between Nwigwe and Philemon. The suspect claimed the act was in self-defense.
A subsequent search of Nwigwe’s residence uncovered a wide array of weapons, including:
- Five Dane guns
- One English-made single barrel
- An AK-47 magazine loaded with 29 rounds of live ammunition
- Four live cartridges
- Seventeen expended cartridges
- A bow with arrows
- Knives and a sword stick
- A toy gun, a taser, and a bulletproof jacket
- Multiple sets of police uniforms and boots
Philemon is currently receiving treatment at the National Hospital, while Nwigwe remains in custody and will face charges upon the conclusion of investigations.
Vehicle Theft in Byazhin
In a separate incident, the police apprehended 45-year-old Evans Omagba in connection with a stolen vehicle reported by Onyeka Vincent, whose car was taken from outside Saint Louis Catholic Church in Byazhin on December 29, 2024.
Acting on investigative leads, officers traced the stolen vehicle to Suleja, where Omagba was found in possession of the car. During questioning, Omagba confessed to the theft and disclosed that three accomplices, who remain at large, aided him.
Police also recovered two additional stolen vehicles, further highlighting the challenges of vehicle theft in the region.
The FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to combating crime and urged residents to remain vigilant while reporting suspicious activities promptly. Investigations into both incidents are ongoing.
