Sen. Opeyemi Bamidele of the Ekiti Central Senatorial District warned on Tuesday that certain senators who are not happy with Senate President Godswill Akpabio intend to remove him from office before he reaches his first anniversary in June.
Claims made by Senator Abdul Ningi that the 2024 Budget approved by the Senate under Akpabio was padded were also referred to by Bamidele as a “civilian coup.”
The Bauchi Central Senatorial District representative Ningi is accused of trying to topple Senate President Godswill Akpabio by inciting the Northern Senators’ Forum, which he chaired, to oppose the southern senator who succeeded Ahmad Lawan. Bamidele, who is also the majority leader of the upper house, is incensed about this accusation.
