Benin City, Nigeria – The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it has successfully uploaded 90.33 percent of the results from the Edo State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IREV). This figure represents results from 4,082 out of the 4,519 polling units where elections took place across the state.
Speaking earlier today, Anugbum Onuoha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Edo State, reassured the public during an interview on Arise Television that the electronic transmission of results was proceeding smoothly and on track. Onuoha highlighted that the transmission process had been efficient, barring minor network disruptions.
“We have trained the operators for the BVAS (Bimodal Voter Accreditation System). They are set. BVAS is to accredit the voters and to know the total number of voters that will vote at that level and that polling unit,” Onuoha said during the interview.
As the tallying of results nears completion, INEC’s transmission of data via the IREV platform reflects the commission’s commitment to transparency and public access to electoral outcomes in real time. This development comes as voters in Edo State eagerly await the final results to determine who will succeed the current governor, Godwin Obaseki.
The Edo governorship election has drawn significant attention, with key political parties, including the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the Labour Party (LP), vying for the governorship seat.
