He has requested that a judge in New York delay the sentencing of Donald Trump, the U.S. president-elect, who was sentenced on January 10.
Trump’s lawyers stated that they would pursue “a dismissal of this politically motivated prosecution that was flawed from the very beginning.”
His felony hush money lawsuit is at issue, and it is set for January 10th.
His attorneys informed him of the decision to request a pause in the sentencing and declared that Trump would appeal Justice Juan Merchan’s ruling that the sentencing would go forward.
The criminal procedures in his New York case should be stopped, according to his attorneys, if he files an appeal.
Recall that in May 2024, Trump was convicted of 34 felonies related to manipulating corporate documents.
He became the first former president to be found guilty of a crime as a result.
Trump attempted to pass off reimbursements for a hush money payment to an adult film star as legal fees, which led to the allegations.
In the midst of all of this, Trump has entered a not guilty plea while maintaining his innocence.
The 2024 presidential election had caused the sentence of the president-elect to be postponed several times.
Additionally, Trump had tried to have the case dismissed on the grounds of presidential immunity.
In December, Justice Merchan finally dismissed the immunity argument.
Trump has been mandated to attend the hearing either in person or remotely, even though the sentencing is set for January 10.
Steven Cheung, a spokesman for Trump’s presidential transition, stated, “The American People elected President Trump with an overwhelming mandate that demands an immediate end to the political weaponization of our justice system and all of the remaining Witch Hunts.”
The Manhattan district attorney’s office replied that Trump would not be harmed by a ruling that denied his plea for an emergency delay of his sentencing.
