Dele Momodu: PDP Governors Opposing Coalition May Be Secretly Aiding Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election Bid
Prominent media entrepreneur and political strategist, Dele Momodu, has raised critical concerns over internal resistance within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against forming a unified opposition coalition to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Momodu, speaking during an interview on Arise Television, cautioned that PDP governors opposing a merger or strategic alliance with other opposition parties might be acting in ways that indirectly strengthen Tinubu’s re-election strategy.
This comes in response to a statement on Monday by PDP governors, who categorically rejected any plan to merge or form an electoral coalition ahead of 2027. The decision contradicts ongoing advocacy for political unity, which analysts argue is necessary to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Let’s be realistic—neither Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, nor Rabiu Kwankwaso has the individual political weight or national spread to defeat Tinubu alone,” Momodu asserted. “The same coalition strategy that brought APC to power in 2015 is what the opposition must now adopt to take back Nigeria.”
He emphasized that failure to unite might signal covert collaboration with the ruling party. “If some PDP governors are rejecting a coalition, then it’s not far-fetched to think they may be covertly working for a Tinubu presidency. This sabotages efforts to rescue Nigeria from its current economic instability, currency devaluation, and rising unemployment rates,” he stated.
Momodu also warned opposition lawmakers and governors against succumbing to pressure from state agencies like the EFCC or being intimidated by the fear of political persecution. “Any senator or governor who jumps ship for personal gain may find themselves politically extinct,” he warned.
As Nigeria braces for the high-stakes 2027 presidential election, the call for strategic political alliances, electoral reform, and unified governance vision remains stronger than ever.
