The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), specifically the joint border patrol team of Sector 4, has confiscated a shipment of sex enhancement drugs valued at N19.6 million in Sokoto State.
During a press briefing on Thursday, February 15, 2024, the Coordinating Comptroller, Kolapo Oladeji, reported that the seizure took place in the Kajiji area along the Sokoto-Jega Road, following intelligence received.
Oladeji highlighted the dangers posed by these drugs to public health, noting that some of the seized products bore counterfeit NAFDAC registration numbers and expiration dates.
In addition to the drug seizure, Oladeji revealed that his team had intercepted trucks loaded with food items destined for the Niger Republic via the Kebbi border.
Given the current economic challenges, Oladeji emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian Customs Service to combat food smuggling out of Nigeria. He pointed out that such practices have contributed to the soaring prices of food items in the country, exacerbating the hardship faced by Nigerians.
Despite the border closures enforced by ECOWAS, there have been attempts to smuggle food to neighboring countries, which the Customs Service vows to thwart. Oladeji assured that continuous efforts would be made to monitor and block smuggling routes, and those found engaging in such activities would be prosecuted according to the law.
Furthermore, the agency reported the interception of 60 jerry cans of petrol at the Illela border, which were subsequently auctioned to the general public.
