Abuja – A Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, has issued a bench warrant for the arrest of popular blogger Martins Vincent Otse, known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over alleged criminal defamation against gospel singer Mercy Chinwo.
Magistrate Emmanuel Iyanna granted the order on Thursday, March 13, 2025, after VDM failed to appear in court following a summons issued on March 5. The magistrate directed the Nigeria Police Force and other security agencies to arrest and produce him in court.
VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, attempted to appeal against the bench warrant, assuring the court that he would personally present his client, but the magistrate declined, insisting that law enforcement execute the order.
The case stems from allegations made by VDM on social media, accusing Chinwo of misappropriating $345,000 linked to her former record label boss, Eezee Tee. Chinwo’s legal team, led by Pelumi Olajengbesi, provided documentary evidence to counter the claims, describing them as false and damaging to her reputation.
The case is also before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, where Chinwo is seeking ₦1.1 billion in damages and a public retraction of the alleged defamatory statements.
