Lokoja, Nigeria – In a tragic incident, a housewife identified as Barkisu Sulaiman has been arrested by local residents of Karaworo-Lokoja for allegedly throwing her newborn baby into a gutter. The arrest followed a tip-off by one of her close friends, who revealed the shocking crime to an elder in the community.
According to reports gathered by The Bureau Newspaper, the confidant, a woman from the Kabawa area of Lokoja, was deeply disturbed by the condition of the abandoned infant and sought help. She confessed to an elderly man that Barkisu had been carrying a seven-month pregnancy, allegedly for one of her sick husband’s servants, who lived in Adankolo-Lokoja. The servant, who is now said to be at large, reportedly rejected the pregnancy and advised Barkisu to terminate it.
Moved by the confession, local residents acted quickly to apprehend Barkisu. Upon her arrest, she allegedly admitted to discarding the one-day-old baby in the gutter due to guilt over infidelity with her husband’s servant.
Paul Igweibuke, the Kogi Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), confirmed the arrest, stating, “She is in our custody and investigation is in progress.”
This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with many condemning the act and calling for justice for the newborn child.
