Breaking News: Sanusi Lamido Set To Return As Emir of Kano

In a notable move within Kano State, the Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano, or the Kano Electorate, has formally approached the Kano State House of Assembly with a request. In their letter dated February 5, 2024, they urge a reconsideration of the legislation that led to the creation of four additional emirates under the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje. Furthermore, the group advocates for the return of Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II to his position as the Emir of Kano.

This appeal by the Yan Dangwalen Jihar Kano has reignited discussions, especially following comments by ex-Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso about potentially revisiting the decisions made during Ganduje’s term regarding the emirate system. Nonetheless, the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party, has advised caution against any actions that could upset the current emirate structure, highlighting the imperative of sustaining peace within Kano’s historic precincts, as reported by The PUNCH. The opposition, while counseling NNPP Governor Abba Yusuf to proceed with caution, stresses the significance of preserving the peaceful cohabitation currently experienced in the state. This stance by the APC underscores the complex interplay between traditional heritage and the political landscape in Kano State.

In their letter, the group posits that merging the emirates back into a singular entity could drive unity and advancement for Kano’s populace. They contend that such a merger would simplify administrative processes and foster a more unified community, which would be to the benefit of all residents. Moreover, they call for the restoration of Sanusi to his former role, highlighting his contributions towards the socio-economic upliftment, educational advancement, healthcare improvement, and the overall betterment of living standards during his reign as Emir.
