In a tragic incident, the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Plateau State, Sylvanus Namang, has been fatally shot. The attack occurred at a pub within the Pankshin Local Government Area on Saturday, February 17, 2024, leading to the death of Namang and another individual.
A prominent figure within the APC, preferring to remain unnamed, verified the loss of Namang to the Punch in Jos on the following Sunday.
Confirming the incident, the source recounted, “Indeed, it’s a fact that we’ve lost Sylvanus Namang, our spokesperson. He had attended a funeral in Pankshin on Saturday. Later, he stopped by a local eatery to make a purchase. During his visit, armed assailants entered the establishment and opened fire, striking him and another patron. Sadly, Namang succumbed to his injuries and passed away.”
The source also shared that the second victim, identified as a local entrepreneur, died as a result of the injuries from the shooting.
The unexpected demise of Namang has left the community and his colleagues in shock, prompting calls for law enforcement to diligently investigate and apprehend those responsible for these senseless acts of violence.
Namang had a distinguished career, including a significant tenure as a director at the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), where he managed Lafia FM Radio for four years. Additionally, he served as the Chief Press Secretary to the late Deputy Senate President, Senator Ibrahim Mantu.
