Rivers Political Crisis: Gov Fubara Invites Amaewhule-Led Lawmakers for Crucial Meeting
The ongoing political crisis in Rivers State has taken a fresh twist as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has invited the faction of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule to a meeting aimed at resolving key legislative issues.
The invitation was contained in a letter signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Tammy Danagogo, and made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Sunday, March 10, 2025.
Meeting Agenda
The letter, titled “Meeting Between the Governor of Rivers State and the Honourable Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly,” was addressed to Speaker Amaewhule. It stated that the meeting was prompted by the governor’s receipt of the Certified True Copy of the Supreme Court judgment regarding the ongoing legislative crisis.
According to the statement, discussions at the meeting will focus on:
- Providing a venue for Assembly sittings.
- Payment of outstanding remuneration and allowances to lawmakers.
- Presentation of the 2025 budget to the House.
- Other matters necessary for moving the state forward.
Government House Meeting Set for Monday
The meeting is scheduled to take place at 10 a.m. on Monday at the Government House in Port Harcourt.
“Many thanks, Sir, as we look forward to your kind attendance with a view to charting the way forward in the interest of the good people of Rivers State,” the letter concluded.
This latest development follows the protracted power struggle between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The rift has led to a divided legislature, with one faction backing Fubara and another loyal to Wike.
Political analysts are watching closely to see if this meeting will lead to a resolution or further deepen the crisis in the state.
