Washington, D.C. – In response to the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, President Joe Biden has ordered U.S. military forces stationed in the region to assist in defending Israel and intercept missiles launched by Iran. The decision follows the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)‘s claim of firing dozens of missiles at Israel, in retaliation for the deaths of civilians in Gaza and the targeted killing of Hamas and Hezbollah leaders.
In a statement from the White House, President Biden emphasized the U.S.’s readiness to protect both Israeli security and American personnel in the Middle East. The President and Vice President Kamala Harris convened multiple meetings in the White House Situation Room with their national security team to monitor the unfolding situation closely.
In a tweet, President Biden wrote:
“This morning, @VP and I convened our national security team to discuss Iranian plans to launch an imminent missile attack against Israel. We discussed how the United States is prepared to help Israel defend against these attacks, and protect American personnel in the region.”
Additionally, the White House tweeted:
