JNI Raises Alarm Over Killings in Plateau, Kebbi, and Katsina – Warns of Looming Anarchy if Insecurity Persists
Abuja, Nigeria – The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), under the leadership of His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has condemned the recent spate of killings in parts of Nigeria, describing the tragic events as “very depressing” and a threat to national stability.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the JNI’s Secretary General, Professor Khalid Abubakar Aliyu, the group expressed deep concern over the unwarranted killing of about 60 people in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State, warning that if left unchecked, such violence could spiral into anarchy.
“The recent killing spree in Bokkos is worrisome and we fear that the way things are going, if not well-managed, it could lead to anarchy,” the statement read. “Therefore, Government should rise to the occasion and act decisively, as human lives seem to mean nothing anymore in Nigeria and it portrays Nigeria and Nigerians wrongly to the comity of nations.”
JNI lamented that after a period of relative peace on the Plateau, the resurgence of violence marks a dangerous relapse into “the former dark days of bloodbath.” The organisation reiterated the sanctity of human life and stressed that no criminal should be emboldened under any guise.
The statement also referenced fresh reports by the BBC Hausa Service, which revealed the killing of 16 persons in Augie LGA of Kebbi State and the kidnapping of over 50 people, including women and children, in Funtua LGA of Katsina State.
“For how long would these repeated incidences continue to occur uninterrupted? Isn’t it time that Nigerians and the security agents are more proactive, instead of reactive?” JNI questioned.
Calling for urgent action, the Islamic body urged security agencies to intensify efforts in fishing out the culprits and ensuring they are dealt with in line with the laws of the land. It also urged the Federal Government and the affected state governments to strengthen intelligence gathering, improve communication, and boost operational capacity of security personnel.
“Be as it may, we call on all to propagate peace, equity and justice, for no one has the right of living over and above the other citizens in Nigeria. Moreover, we cannot be humans without humanity,” JNI emphasized.
The Sultan of Sokoto, as spiritual head of the organization, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved families and governments of Plateau, Kebbi, and Katsina states, praying for Allah’s divine intervention in Nigeria’s worsening security situation.
JNI’s call adds to growing national concern over the rising wave of violence and kidnappings across several regions in Nigeria, as many citizens urge the government to do more to secure lives and restore peace.
