One hundred and ten (110) widows in Okene Local Government Area and Ekinrin-Adde Community of Ijumu LGA of Kogi State were drowned in joy today as gifts ranging from Bags of Rice, Festive Wrappers and petty trading cash were donated to each beneficiary through the Non-governmental Organization, Global Green Pillars Initiative, an humanitarian arm of Barr (Chief) Ladi Jatto, OON, in reaching to the vulnerables to improve their livelihood .
At Okene, The Ohi of Okene, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Isah Mamman Okatahi prayed for the 60 widows from the 11 wards of the LGA who were beneficiaries of the Empowerment packages which is a routine gesture to bring succor to the widows.
At the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba of Ekinrin-Adde, the NGO provided Wrappers, Bags of Rice and Cash Grants for petty trading for each widow numbering up to 50 women, which according to the Community King was a humanitarian gesture of unwavering commitment to the wellbeing of the widows.
In her remark, the Patron of the NGO, Barr Jatto says her inspiration is drawn from the psychological proximity of understanding the struggles of a widow- her mother.
According to her, the struggles, sacrifices and pain of a widow forges them into resilient and strong women who can overcome difficult challenges. She promises to be with them through constant support and physical presence in their lives to remind them of their worth and value in the society.
The GGPI NGO has carried out similar Empowerment to orphans in various schools through provision of school uniforms, books and other amenities in the past Kogi State.
