Abuja – The Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmed Dangiwa, has launched a scathing attack on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, declaring that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lost its political relevance the moment Atiku joined its ranks.
In an exclusive interview with The Nation, Dangiwa accused Atiku of being a “political parasite” who drains parties financially but refuses to invest in them.
“Atiku is Like a Snake – He Only Uses Parties for Primaries”
Dangiwa did not mince words, stating: “Atiku Abubakar is just like a snake; he doesn’t fund parties. He only gathers money to win primaries and then abandons the party afterward.”
He contrasted this with President Bola Tinubu’s leadership style, praising the APC leader for bankrolling the party’s operations and election campaigns. “Tinubu funded our party and campaigns. Now tell me, who will do that in the PDP? Who is their financier today?” he asked rhetorically.
Northern Voters Being Manipulated Against Tinubu – Dangiwa
Acknowledging political headwinds ahead of the next election cycle, the minister admitted that opposition elements are weaponizing Nigeria’s economic challenges to turn Northern voters against Tinubu.
“They’re infiltrating the minds of ordinary Northerners, claiming Tinubu brought hunger and poverty. But was Nigeria a paradise before May 2023?” he fired back.
However, he expressed confidence in Tinubu’s economic reforms, insisting that living standards are gradually improving. “The North will make a historic mistake if they listen to these lies. Who will they replace Tinubu with? Atiku? Someone who can’t even sustain his own party?”
PDP’s Financial Crisis Deepens
Dangiwa’s comments highlight the PDP’s worsening financial woes, with key stakeholders reportedly unwilling to bankroll the party after repeated election losses. His analogy of Atiku as a “snake” is likely to escalate tensions between the ruling APC and opposition ranks.
Political analysts suggest the minister’s outburst may be a preemptive strategy to counter expected anti-Tinubu narratives in the North ahead of 2027. However, PDP spokespersons have dismissed his claims as “the rantings of a drowning government.”
As Nigeria’s cost-of-living crisis persists, the battle for the Northern electorate’s loyalty is set to dominate the political landscape in coming months.
