Abuja, Nigeria – A Nigerian Army Brigadier General, M.A. Sadiq, is currently detained in Abuja, accused of diverting palliative rice and selling military equipment, including generator sets and operational vehicles, to scrap yards. The allegations have prompted a full-scale investigation, with Brigadier General A.M. Tukur, formerly the Registrar of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), appointed to take over command of the 3 Brigade in Kano State.
According to military sources, Brigadier General Sadiq’s case is under investigation, and he is expected to face charges at a court-martial. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has yet to formally comment on the matter.
This development follows growing unrest within the Nigerian Army. In September, SaharaReporters revealed that at least 196 soldiers had applied for voluntary retirement, citing low morale and the desire to join foreign military forces, including the British and Ukrainian armies. Many of these resignations have occurred in the North-East and other conflict zones, where security challenges continue to intensify.
The detained brigadier general’s alleged misconduct has drawn public attention, further highlighting the struggles faced by Nigeria’s military as it combats both internal issues and national security threats.
