The All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership in Anambra State has voiced strong opposition to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s recent nomination of Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu as a minister-designate. Describing the move as an “anti-party action,” APC stakeholders in the state held an emergency meeting in Awka on Thursday to discuss the implications of the appointment, questioning the rationale behind choosing Ojukwu without consulting local party members.
High Chief Bunty Onuigbo, APC South East Zonal Secretary and a member of the APC Elders Forum in Anambra, spoke on behalf of the stakeholders, describing the appointment as a “violation of party loyalty” that could demoralize committed members. “This decision is detrimental,” Onuigbo said, “and by prioritizing non-APC individuals, the President appears to be undermining APC interests in Anambra.”
He further expressed concern that this appointment might lead to defections within the party, asking, “Is Mr. President indirectly supporting the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra?”
Onuigbo also criticized APGA’s history of monopolizing program benefits and alleged that President Tinubu’s decision to nominate Ojukwu, a prominent APGA figure, could harm APC’s standing. APC stakeholders resolved to escalate their grievances to the state Chairman, Chief Basil Ejidike, for formal submission to the National Working Committee (NWC) and the National Executive Committee (NEC).
