Daura, Katsina State – June 25, 2024:

Alhaji Ali Modu Sheriff, former Governor of Borno State, has added his name to the list of prominent northern politicians who have visited former President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, Katsina State, within the last 72 hours.

Sheriff’s visit comes shortly after former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai met with Buhari just 24 hours earlier. El-Rufai’s visit followed closely on the heels of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s meeting with Buhari.

Before his meeting with Buhari, Atiku also visited former Nigerian military presidents Ibrahim Babangida and Abdulsalam Abubakar at their residences in Minna, Niger State.

These successive high-profile visits have fueled speculation about a potential strategic alliance across party lines in anticipation of the 2027 general elections. Political analysts suggest that these meetings could indicate the beginning of maneuverings to form a broad coalition aimed at influencing the future political landscape in Nigeria.

The visits by Atiku, El-Rufai, and Sheriff, all major figures in Nigerian politics, have intensified discussions about possible collaborations and realignments that might shape the next electoral contest. Observers are keen to see whether these interactions will lead to a more unified northern political strategy or signal the formation of new political alliances that could cross traditional party boundaries.

As the political atmosphere heats up, the movements and interactions of these key players will be closely monitored for further indications of their plans and strategies leading up to the 2027 elections.
