The Head of Tunburku community in the Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Malam Ashiru Sharehu, remains in captivity five months after his abduction.
It was gathered that the traditional leader was kidnapped in June while returning from his farm, and there had been no updates on his release since then.
Hussaini Umar, a local traditional leader, confirmed to Daily Trust that bandits had contacted the family of the kidnapped village head and demanded a ransom.
“The village head has been in their custody for six months since his abduction on his way back from the farm. His captors contacted the family with a ransom demand, which was paid, but they are still asking for more,” Umar said.
He added that the village head was alive, but the bandits continued to refuse his release.
Umar also revealed that the wife and son of another village head from Galadimawa have been held captive for about four months, after being abducted from their home.
He appealed to the relevant authorities to intervene and secure the release of the victims, bringing them back to their families.
