Over the weekend, there was jubilation in the Ahoada region of Rivers State amid rumors that a notorious cult leader, Gift Okpara, known as 2Baba, had been killed.

According to the Nation, on Saturday, February 17, 2024, 2Baba was allegedly shot dead during a joint security operation targeting the hideout of the Iceland cult leader and his gang in Idu-Ekpeye, Rivers.

A high-ranking police official, requesting anonymity, mentioned that 2Baba was struck multiple times throughout the raid.

While there was no formal verification of 2Baba’s death immediately following the operation, the news led to celebrations among the communities in Ahoada, indicating a widespread belief that the cult leader had been eliminated.

Back in September 2023, 2Baba allegedly orchestrated an ambush against a divisional police officer, Bako Angbashim, in the Odiemudie community, Ahoada East LGA, resulting in the officer’s capture and subsequent murder by the cult group. The DPO was taken to a forest, where he was killed and his body mutilated.

As of the time this report was prepared, police authorities had not yet confirmed these recent developments.
