After 181 days, a premature baby who was so small he could fit in his mother’s bra has returned home with his parents.
Zaylan Reed was born 16 weeks early, weighing only 1 lb 6 oz, and the doctors said he wouldn’t survive.
Baby Zaylan was born prematurely with a hole in his heart and ROP, an eye condition that can affect newborns, but after 181 days in the hospital on and off oxygen, he is now healthy and at home.
Krysten Risbon, a 22-year-old mother, said of her newborn baby, “He’s a little fighter.” “He’s an absolute miracle.”
Doctors told Krysten that her bleeding was caused by a yeast infection when she went into labor at 23 weeks and 6 days.
Krysten recounted, “I started hurting more right away. “I screamed all night long.”
“When I first held him, he sat in my bra,” recalled Krysten of Altoona, Pennsylvania, in the United States. Only his foot fits in now.
She was 4 cm dilated when the couple went back to the hospital. Although Kaylan was due to give birth that day, she was informed that he would likely not survive.
“I couldn’t bring anyone with me. I just had the impression that everything would be alright.
Zaylan was born on December 23, 2022, two days after doctors were able to postpone the birth. Before Zaylan was transferred to the newborn ICU, the baby’s father, 20-year-old Janerio Reed, cut the chord.
“When they took him down, I was pretty scared,” Krysten admitted. He fit in the palm of my hand because he was so small.
In addition to being put on oxygen and undergoing surgery to enhance his eyesight, Zayaln finally had a feeding tube installed.
Kaylen, who was transported to the hospital by helicopter, said, “I started crying.”
Thankfully, on June 21, 2023, he was allowed to return home.
As a result of her son’s ordeal, Krysten claims she is currently pursuing her studies to become a NICU nurse.
