Ganduje Rules Out Northern Presidency in 2027, Backs Tinubu for Second Term
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, has dismissed the possibility of a Northern candidate contesting for the presidency in 2027, affirming that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will seek re-election.
Ganduje made this declaration on Tuesday while receiving members of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Media Centre (PBAT Media Centre) and the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF) at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.
Tinubu’s Right to Re-election
Although President Tinubu has not formally declared his intention to run for a second term, Ganduje insisted that the APC remains committed to the North-South power rotation arrangement, which, according to him, guarantees Tinubu’s second term.
“When a leader from the northern part of this country was in office for eight years, we advocated that the next president in our party should come from the South,” Ganduje said.
“Luckily enough, we worked very hard with the cooperation of Nigerians, and our president emerged from the South. He is going, Insha’Allah, for a second term in 2027. And then after that, power will return to the North.”
Ganduje’s remarks come amid speculations that some Northern politicians may be gearing up to challenge Tinubu’s re-election bid. There have also been reports of ongoing discussions between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) leader, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, regarding a possible coalition to contest the presidency in 2027.
Economic Challenges and Government Reforms
Addressing the current economic difficulties, Ganduje acknowledged that the country is going through a tough period but assured that the Tinubu administration’s economic policies would yield positive results in the long run.
“There is no doubt that many things went wrong over a long period, and it requires surgery before we can get it right.
We are happy that we have started seeing the outcome of the reforms, especially on the economic front, and we believe this will continue to yield positive results so that the Renewed Hope Agenda will be achieved.”
Media and Youth Groups Pledge Support
During the visit, the leader of the PBAT Media Centre, Hon. Dada Olusegun, reaffirmed the group’s commitment to countering misinformation and promoting the achievements of the Tinubu administration ahead of 2027.
Similarly, Mallam Auwal Ibrahim, the National Coordinator of the Tinubu Northern Youth Forum (TNYF), commended the administration’s policies, stating that they have already begun positively impacting Northern Nigeria.
