Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa Poised to Secure Re-Election in Ondo Gubernatorial Poll
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is on track to win re-election in Ondo State, leading his closest rival, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), with a significant margin.
With results from 15 out of 18 local government areas (LGAs) announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Aiyedatiwa has secured victories in all, amassing 301,113 votes. In contrast, Mr. Ajayi has garnered 97,051 votes, leaving a vote margin of 204,062 in favor of the incumbent.

Remaining LGAs and Voter Dynamics
Results are still awaited from Ilaje, Odigbo, and Ese-Odo LGAs. Governor Aiyedatiwa hails from Ilaje LGA, while Mr. Ajayi is from Ese-Odo. However, with the APC candidate’s commanding lead and the overall voter turnout, it is unlikely that the final three results will alter the election’s trajectory.
Path to Victory
To be declared the winner, a candidate must secure the majority of votes and at least 25% of the votes in no fewer than 12 of the state’s 18 LGAs. Governor Aiyedatiwa has already cleared this threshold, having achieved at least 25% in all announced LGAs.
Next Steps
INEC had earlier paused the collation after releasing results from 13 LGAs, resuming later to announce two more. The results from Ilaje, Odigbo, and Ese-Odo are expected imminently, and final declarations will follow shortly thereafter.
This election reinforces the APC’s dominance in Ondo State and Governor Aiyedatiwa’s stronghold across key LGAs.
