Harare, Zimbabwe – A woman, Melocia Gwata, has sought legal protection from her husband, George Kusotera, citing his abusive behavior and excessive demands for intimacy.
Gwata disclosed her ordeal at the Harare Civil Court before Magistrate Judith Taruvinga, explaining how her husband had coerced her into having intercourse up to eight times per night. She further revealed that when she refused, Kusotera resorted to violence.
“He insists on intimacy every day, even waking me up in the middle of the night after multiple encounters on the same day,” Gwata recounted, describing the toll this has taken on her physical and mental health.
When she could no longer meet his demands due to fatigue and physical pain, Kusotera allegedly assaulted her, often in front of their children. Gwata shared how her husband also threatened to divorce her if she continued to reject his advances, adding that he had publicly humiliated her by shouting obscenities in front of their children.
In response to the accusations, Kusotera admitted to his behavior and apologized, claiming that he did not realize he was making his wife uncomfortable. He also promised to refrain from further physical abuse.
After considering both sides, Magistrate Taruvinga granted Gwata a protection order, ensuring her safety from further abuse.
