Zike, Plateau State – No fewer than 47 people were killed on Sunday night in a fresh wave of violence that rocked Zike and Kimakpa communities in the Kwall District of Bassa Local Government Area, Plateau State.

The brutal attack, which occurred around 8:00 p.m., came just over a week after a similar assault in Bokkos Local Government claimed 52 lives and left property worth millions of naira destroyed.

National Secretary of the Irigwe Development Association, Danjuma Dickson Auta, confirmed the incident on Monday in Jos, describing it as another dark chapter for the Irigwe people. He disclosed that the attack resulted in the deaths of 47 individuals, with several others sustaining serious injuries.

The Plateau State Police Command is yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, the Plateau State Government has expressed grave concern over the continued occupation of vulnerable communities by armed groups—a development authorities say is exacerbating insecurity and heightening tensions across the state.

In response to the escalating violence, the Chief of Army Staff has assured that the Federal Government will deploy additional troops to reinforce security in troubled areas across the state.

The situation remains tense, with calls growing louder for urgent action to protect lives and restore peace in the region.
